Now the Intel Core 2 Quad processors require additional power. You need to ascertain, from the manufacturer of the motherboard, whether this motherboard has the capability to provide this additional power and, if so, which of the Intel Core 2 Quad processors are supported by the motherboard's BIOS. Note also that it sometimes requires a BIOS upgrade to enable this support - and, this BIOS upgrade must be installed BEFORE you remove the existing processor.

Ifyou are starting off and haven't yet bought a system, then the CPU you choose will depend on your budget. The great thing about Core 2 Duo CPUs is that most of them will overclock well. So
3 Centang pada Number of Processor. Caranya misal processor Intel Core I3 maka pilih 3, kalau Core I7 maka pilih 7.

can i upgrade my core2 duo processor to i3 Thread starter vazim Start date May 28, 2014 You are using an out of date browser. What are the new and old specs? Apr 27, 2009 37,149 2,924 140,290 3 No you cannot. Core 2 and all i3's are a totally different socket. What are your full system specs? Sep 10, 2011 3,711 7 23,815 4 [quotemsg=13380837,0,1472522]Yes, as long as the motherboard supports a new cpu, and if the cpu supports your RAM. What are the new and old specs?[/quotemsg] Actually no you can't. They are different sockets and aren't backwards compatible. Mar 22, 2011 5,343 54 37,690 5 Completely different sockets so you're also changing out your motherboard at the very least. If you have DDR3 RAM, then you can use it with the new motherboard. Odds are though, your RAM is DDR2 and will also need to be replaced as DDR3 support was not added until very late into the Core 2 series' lifespan. 6 [quotemsg=13383157,0,563146][quotemsg=13380837,0,1472522]Yes, as long as the motherboard supports a new cpu, and if the cpu supports your RAM. What are the new and old specs?[/quotemsg] Actually no you can't. They are different sockets and aren't backwards compatible. [/quotemsg] Hence why I said "if the motherboard supports it". Jul 24, 2012 610 0 19,360 7 [quotemsg=13385742,0,1472522]Hence why I said "if the motherboard supports it".[/quotemsg] Indeed. That statement implies that an i3 or better can be inserted into the current motherboard the OP did state "without changing motherboard." In addition your phrase "new cpu" is ambiguous, an individual may believe it to be a brand new Core 2 Duo/Quad, or other processor. I'm not "hating" on you, facts need to be made clear in my opinion. In response to the original poster, no you cannot upgrade to an i3 or above on your current motherboard if you currently have a Core 2 Duo. The Core 2 Duo and Quad processors are on Intel's socket 775 for desktops. The more modern Intel CPU's such as the i3 are on a different socket, the most recent being 1150 for general consumers. With that said, if your RAM is currently DDR2 most likely if you're on a Core 2 Duo then you'll need a new motherboard and RAM you'll need DDR3 RAM. All the best. 8 I got the exact same question but I'm willing to tell my specs so my specs are Core 2 Duo Ghz 8Gb DDR3 Ram and I want to run a GTX 880M Gpu but it requires at least a Core i3 so I decided i will replace my Processor So is it Possible? Also I don't know which Mobo I have, all I know is that it's a Lenovo. To find out my Mobo I will have to either download CPUz if I'm not Mistaking or I have to open my cpu which I don't want to do. So a simple answer like NO will help a lot THANK YOU. May 18, 2007 23,373 4,773 103,890 9 Core2 is LGA775, Core i-series are LGA1xxx, 300+ more pins. No way in hell, drastically different sockets. Jan 19, 2012 1,249 43 19,840 10 An I3 is a no but ... You could upgrade to quad core like the Q9650 ... it might work ok with a 750ti. Status Not open for further replies. With desktops, if the socket is the same, you can upgrade it. Laptops are made to only cater one type of cpu. Jun 24, 2014 1,417 0 22,510 4 Most laptops and netbooks are BGA type CPUs but there are some laptops with socketed processors that can be replaced or upgraded. Most of them cannot, but there are some. 5 Not only that, you can't upgrade a laptop. With desktops, if the socket is the same, you can upgrade it. Laptops are made to only cater one type of cpu. As darkbreeze said, there are notebooks that the cpu can be change, in nowadays more and more seems to be able to do that. 6 Starmicronics sells laptop CPUs. They should know. I upgraded my Dell. Check to see if any thermal pad is required for heatsink contact to the GPU or other components. Apr 7, 2015 3,158 5 25,865 8 Sorry not i3, or i5, but there may be some quads that fit, or much faster Core2Duo. I was reading the title, and missed that part of your post. Apr 7, 2015 3,158 5 25,865 13 Do I have to change the entire motherboard for that? Apr 7, 2015 3,158 5 25,865 14 no, just the cpu & maybe update the bios. 15 Thank I have a 965gm express chipset family motherboard and my tech guy says that I have to change my entire he wrong? Apr 7, 2015 3,158 5 25,865 16 the bios is what you have to worry about for as long as recognizes the new cpu properly then you are good. 17 The top end T9500 should work just fine. I have a Dell Vostro laptop that had a T8100 that I upgraded to a T9500 6M L2. This has Nvidia 8600m graphics, but your graphics should be fine too. As ffg7 mentioned the bios is your only concern. Can i upgrade from core duo to i5 without changing ram Thread starter t3rr11 Start date Nov 12, 2013 You are using an out of date browser. It may not display this or other websites should upgrade or use an alternative browser. 1 can i upgrade from core duo to i5 without changing ram from DDR2 to DDR3 because i don't want to have to buy a whole new motherboard and replace the whole laptop all for the new processor? Jun 12, 2009 2,307 0 20,960 Mar 18, 2013 4,634 0 16,960 3 No, because that motherboard does not have the right socket. You need a new motherboard to support a new processor, and a new motherboard will not support that RAM. Apr 19, 2006 27,981 3 84,965 4 Core 2 Duo / Quad uses different sockets than the Core i3/i5/i7 CPUs. In fact, depending on which Core i generation you are talking about they use from oldest to newest socket 1156, 1155, 1150. That excludes the "Extreme" version which uses socket 1366 older and socket 2011 current. They all require DDR3 RAM as well. An upgrade means new CPU, motherboard and RAM. Oct 31, 2012 190 0 10,710 5 upgrading a CPU without upgrading the RAM is like eating corn flakes without a banana or milk or something similar like that Mar 18, 2013 4,634 0 16,960 6 Actually upgrading a core duo to an i5 without a new motherboard is like eating corn flakes without corn, flakes, milk, a bowl, spoon, or stomach.
